Moniepoint POS Machine Price, Charges and Daily Target

Moniepoint POS machine price in 2026: what the setup fee covers, reported charges, the ₦80,000 daily target, retrieval rules and alternatives explained.

You want a POS for your shop or your agent stand, and everyone around you says "get Moniepoint". Then the questions start. How much is the machine? What will they cut from every withdrawal? Is it true they take the POS back if you do not hit a daily target?

This guide answers those questions about the Moniepoint POS machine price, charges and daily target, using Moniepoint's own published figures and reputable Nigerian reports, as of October 2026. Where Moniepoint has not published a number, we say so and show you how to get it. We are independent: Moniepoint did not pay for or review this article.

In short:

  • You need a Moniepoint business account first. You then request the POS in the app.
  • Moniepoint's older guide lists ₦21,500. A March 2026 report said Moniepoint staff now quote ₦25,000 to ₦26,500. Budget for the higher figure and confirm it in the app before you pay.
  • You do not buy the terminal. Moniepoint leases (rents) it to you and can take it back.
  • Reports of Moniepoint's guide put the activity expectation at about ₦80,000 in transactions a day. Terminals that keep falling short may be reassigned.
  • Charges are not on one public price list. Your receipts and transaction history show the exact fee on every transaction.

How the Moniepoint POS works

A POS (point of sale) terminal is the card machine customers tap or insert their cards into. Moniepoint gives terminals to two kinds of users:

  • Merchants: shops, pharmacies and restaurants that use the POS to collect payment for their own goods.
  • Agents: POS operators who offer cash withdrawals, deposits and transfers to the public and charge a fee.

The money from each transaction lands in your Moniepoint business account, held with Moniepoint Microfinance Bank. If you do not have one yet, follow our guide on how to open a business account on OPay, Moniepoint and PalmPay.

How to get a Moniepoint POS: step by step

These steps follow Moniepoint's guide on how to get a Moniepoint POS, as also described by Legit.ng in April 2025. That guide is not new, and app screens change, so confirm each step in your own app.

Step 1: Open and verify your business account

Download Moniepoint Business Banking, sign up with your phone number and BVN (Bank Verification Number), and complete face and ID checks. Add a valid ID and proof of address for higher limits.

Step 2: Register your business with CAC

In December 2025, the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), the agency that registers businesses, told all POS operators to register before 1 January 2026, as the News Agency of Nigeria reported. Register your business name first, then upgrade your Moniepoint account to a registered business.

Step 3: Request the terminal

  1. Log in and select the business that needs the POS.
  2. Open the POS menu under Channels and tap Request New POS.
  3. Choose the terminal offered. The guide names the MP35P, a touchscreen smart POS.
  4. Enter the address where it should be delivered.

Step 4: Fund your account and pay

Fund your account with the amount shown on the screen and confirm payment. Do not pay cash or transfer to anyone's personal account.

Step 5: Meet your relationship manager

After payment, the app assigns you a relationship manager, a Moniepoint field officer who delivers the terminal, sets it up and trains you. The guide says delivery is within 48 hours. Check the officer's name in the app before you hand over anything.

Moniepoint POS machine price in 2026

There are two sets of figures, and you should know both.

The published guide. Moniepoint's how-to guide lists ₦21,500. Pulse Nigeria (January 2025) and Legit.ng (April 2025) reported the same breakdown.

What staff quote now. In March 2026, Condia reported that Moniepoint relationship managers quoted ₦25,000 to ₦26,500. It also said the guide's fee figures dated from January 2023.

ItemOlder guideReported in March 2026What it covers
Caution fee₦10,000₦12,500A deposit, like the deposit on a rented flat.
Logistics fee₦10,000₦12,500Delivery and setup. Not refunded.
Insurance₦1,500₦1,500Cover for the terminal for 12 months.
Total₦21,500₦25,000 to ₦26,500Paid from your Moniepoint account.

Three things to understand before you pay:

  • You lease, you do not own. Moniepoint keeps ownership of the terminal, even after you pay.
  • Part of the money can come back. Pulse and Legit.ng both say Moniepoint gives ₦10,000 back when a terminal in excellent condition is returned or retrieved. If your caution fee is higher, ask how much you will get back.
  • The insurance is limited. The Condia report quoted a relationship manager saying the insurance does not cover theft. Ask what it covers, and what a replacement terminal would cost you, before you pay.

The figure in your app on the day is the one that counts. Prices can also change with promotions, Pulse noted.

If anyone asks for much more than this, or offers to "sell" you a Moniepoint terminal outright, walk away. That is a sign of a middleman or a fraudster.

Moniepoint POS charges list (as reported)

Moniepoint does not publish one public charge sheet for agents. The figures below are what Pulse (January 2025) and Legit.ng (April 2025) reported from Moniepoint's information. Treat them as a guide, not today's prices.

TransactionReported charge to you
Cash withdrawal up to ₦20,0000.5% of the amount
Cash withdrawal above ₦20,000Flat ₦100
TransferFlat ₦20
DepositFlat ₦20 (reported by Pulse)
Bill paymentsNo charge

Both reports also mention cashback (a small refund on each transaction) of up to ₦20 on withdrawals and ₦5 on transfers.

Merchants who take card payments for goods may be priced differently. Our comparison of Paystack, Flutterwave and Moniepoint charges explains why you should get merchant rates in writing.

How to see your real charges in the app

  1. Open Transactions or History in the app.
  2. Tap any withdrawal or transfer. The receipt shows the amount, the fee and what landed in your account.
  3. Do this for a small and a large withdrawal, so you see both sides of the ₦20,000 line.
  4. Ask your relationship manager for the current fee schedule in writing, and whether VAT (value added tax, 7.5%) is included.

Remember the difference: the charge Moniepoint takes from you is separate from the charge you collect from customers. The CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria) does not fix what agents charge customers.

The Moniepoint POS daily target explained

Pulse (January 2025) and Legit.ng (April 2025) both reported that a Moniepoint terminal is expected to process at least ₦80,000 in transactions per day. Legit's wording is softer: Moniepoint "encourages" it, and terminals that fall short regularly may be treated as underperforming and reassigned to another user. Pulse said the terminal gets repossessed if the quota is not met.

What this means in practice:

  • It is not a fee. Nobody charges you ₦80,000.
  • It is an activity expectation. Moniepoint wants terminals working, not sitting in drawers.
  • The risk comes from staying far below it for weeks, not from one slow day.

Is there a Moniepoint POS without target?

We found no official Moniepoint offer of a terminal "without target". Social media posts that promise one usually want an upfront payment. Ask your relationship manager directly what activity level your terminal needs, and get the answer in a message you can keep.

If your terminal is retrieved

If Moniepoint decides to take back your terminal, ask for:

  1. The reason, in writing.
  2. A receipt or in-app confirmation that the terminal was returned.
  3. The ₦10,000 caution refund, if the terminal is in good condition.

If the refund does not arrive, raise a complaint in the app and keep the reference number. If Moniepoint does not resolve it, you can take the complaint to the CBN (Central Bank of Nigeria). Its website, cbn.gov.ng, explains how to file a consumer complaint.

New CBN rules every POS agent must know

The CBN released new agent banking guidelines on 6 October 2025. TechCabal reported that from 1 April 2026, agents must work with only one principal (the bank or fintech whose terminal they use). The same rules limit cash withdrawals to ₦1.2 million a day per agent and ₦100,000 a day per customer, as The ICIR reported.

So choosing Moniepoint is now a long-term decision for an agent. Merchants who only take payment for their own goods are treated differently. Our full guide on how to start a POS business in Nigeria covers these rules, startup costs and geo-fencing (a lock that makes a terminal work only near its registered address).

A worked example

Illustrative example: Musa runs a POS stand near a market in Sabon Gari, Kano. He wants to know if ₦80,000 a day is realistic.

  • Eight customers each withdraw ₦10,000. That is ₦80,000 in withdrawals.
  • At the reported 0.5% charge, Moniepoint takes ₦50 per withdrawal, ₦400 in total.
  • If Musa charges each customer ₦200, he collects ₦1,600 and keeps ₦1,200 before costs.

On busy market days he does several times this, so his real worry is cash and safety, not the target. A stand in a quiet street with three other agents nearby would find it much harder. Count your likely customers before you pay the setup fee.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Paying a "POS agent" on WhatsApp. Request only inside the app and pay only from your own account.
  • Treating the setup fee as a purchase. It is a lease. Look after the terminal and keep the box.
  • Not checking fees on receipts. Compare a few receipts every week, so you notice any change quickly.
  • Letting the terminal sit idle. Weeks of near-zero activity is how terminals get reassigned.
  • Ignoring CAC and CBN rules. An unregistered or roaming agent risks losing the terminal and the account.

Frequently asked questions

How much is a Moniepoint POS machine?

Moniepoint's older guide lists ₦21,500: ₦10,000 caution fee, ₦10,000 logistics and ₦1,500 insurance. A March 2026 report said staff now quote ₦25,000 to ₦26,500. Check the current amount in your app before paying.

Is the Moniepoint caution fee refundable?

Reports of Moniepoint's guide say you get ₦10,000 back if the terminal is returned in excellent condition. The logistics and insurance parts are not refunded. If you paid a higher caution fee, ask your relationship manager in writing how much comes back.

What is the Moniepoint POS daily target?

Reports put it at about ₦80,000 in transactions a day. It is an activity expectation, not a charge, and terminals that regularly fall short may be reassigned.

How long does Moniepoint POS delivery take?

Moniepoint's guide says the relationship manager delivers within 48 hours of payment. In practice, delivery can depend on your location and stock.

Can I use Moniepoint POS with OPay or PalmPay?

A merchant can. An agent cannot, because from 1 April 2026 the CBN requires agents to work with one principal only. Check the current position with your provider, as rules can be adjusted.
